OnePlus CEO says the OnePlus X wasn't a success

Pete Lau, OnePlus' CEO, sat down and answered some questions from fans. Only the first part of the interview is published, but it gave us some interesting insight about behind the scenes and how the company develops a phone.

One thing that caught our eye was the CEO's disappointment with the OnePlus X. In the interview, he gets asked what's the product that he was expecting more of. He replied:

The OnePlus X. We aimed to create a best in class flagship-lite product, and although the community loved the design and thought the product was beautiful, most still preferred flagship devices. This reaffirmed our positioning as a flagship only company and culture.

So even if the OnePlus X was fairly well-received by the reviewers and the community at the time, the device didn't pick up as much traction as he wanted to. The flagship devices were still way more preferable. The small screen size could be the culprit or the fact that the company wasn't as renown.

He didn't go into details of how bad the sales went, but it gave them a good here's why that one didn't get a successor or much in terms of after-sales support - it got just one major update and that was it.

The Bullets Wireless earphones, on the other hand, were a pleasant surprise and no one from the OnePlus' team was able to anticipate the accessory's success.

There are other interesting questions Pete Lau answers to like how much time does it take for the team to design the new handset and what phone does he use right now. If you want to know more, go check out the source link below.
