Apple adds A8 chip to the iPod touch, new colors for the rest of the range

Just as expected, Apple has refreshed its iPods today. The biggest changes have been made to the iPod touch, which now gets a new chipset and better cameras.

The new iPod touch has the 64-bit A8 SoC inside, just like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It also gets the M8 motion coprocessor for accurate tracking of physical activities. Furthermore, there's a new 8 MP rear camera in tow too, along with "an improved FaceTime HD camera" on the front. The screen is still a 4-inch affair though, no updates there.

The iPod touch supports Apple Music, the streaming service that was launched not long ago, since it runs iOS just like the company's iPhones and iPads. The revamped iPod touch starts at $199 if you're happy with 16GB of storage. If you want 32GB, you'll need to pay $249. For the 64GB model the price is $299. For the first time there is also a 128GB iPod touch on offer, yours for $399. All of these versions are already up for grabs from Apple's online store.

If you're a fan of the iPod nano or iPod shuffle, starting today you get three additional color variations: "space gray", silver, and gold.
