When using Windows 7, it may happen that the DVD or Blu-ray drive disappears from the list of available drives in the computer folder. This may be due to the default Windows 7 settings, which hide empty drives in computer folders. To change this default configuration, you need to change the folder options.
When the optical drive does not have a disc, your DVD or Blu-ray drive may not be listed as available in Windows 7 of the drive, even though it is perfectly fine. By default Windows 7 automatically hides empty drives in computer folders. This verifies that the disc is inserted into the drive and it automatically makes the drive visible to Windows.
Please follow the steps below to make your DVD or Blu-Ray drive permanently visible:
1. Click Start, Control Panel and then Tools.
2. Click Folder Options and then select View Page.
3. Cancel the selection of hiding empty drives in the computer folder and click OK.
Now your DVD or Blu-Ray drive will always be visible in your computer folder.
